Central Council Election for President - voting closes 23 May 2013

The Economic Society of Australia is currently holding an Election for Central Council President. Central Council is the national body which governs ESA's federation of state-based groups. Central Council is responsible for producing the journals, assisting with the annual conference and coordinating national events, like the highly successful Eminent Speaker Series. There are two candidates: Dr. Matthew Butlin of Victoria and Prof. Flavio Menezes of Queensland. The management committee of the Queensland Branch has nominated ProfessorMenezes. He has extensive experience in academia and as a consultant to both the private and public sectors. He seeks to promote national initiatives to:
- improve teaching;
- facilitate links between academic and professional economists; and,
- improve the level of public debate on economic issues.
