From: Tuesday May 5, 2015, 12:00 pm
To: Tuesday May 5, 2015, 1:30 pm
The Economic Society of Australia (QLD) in association with Griffith APEC Study Centre invites you to an interactive panel discussion exploring The End of the Mining Boom.
The event will feature Michael Knox, Chief Economist & Director of Strategy (Morgans Financial Limited) and Gene Tunny, Principal (Adept Economics).
The event will be chaired by Professor Tony Makin (Griffith University).
Summary: Australia's mining sector experienced an unprecedented boom over the past decade driven by strong demand from Asian trading partners, especially China. This greatly boosted mining investment and employment, mineral exports, national income, and state and federal government revenues. However key commodity prices, especially for coal and iron ore, have recently fallen more than expected signalling the end of a commodity price super-cycle. This panel discussion will explore what the end of the mining boom means for Queensland’s economy.
This is a free event.
A light lunch will be provided.
Please register with Natasha Vary (n.vary@griffith.edu.au) of Griffith University by 30 April 2015 to assist with catering.
