Population Ageing and Health Care Needs – policy responses to demographic changes

Join us for the first Fast Track Briefing for the year in which an early career professional presents on one of their topics of expertise. A light lunch will be served from 12.15pm.  There is no charge for this event which is supported by Griffith University.  However, prior booking is essential.

The presenter is Dr Suzanne Bonner, Griffith University, who will discuss policy responses to the changing health care needs of an ageing population.

As the ageing population in Australia and other developed economies continues to grow, governments and policymakers have identified many challenges. Discussion has focused on the increased demand for health care, identifying issues around cost and availability. The changing construct of families has exacerbated this issue as fewer older people have family members available to care for them. In this session, Dr Bonner will discuss key issues including: the sandwich generation; future expectations of the healthcare system; promotion of active intervention across the lifespan; and alternative models for healthcare delivery.

About the presenter:

Dr Suzanne Bonner received her PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her research focuses on labour economics with emphasis on demographic issues and policy analysis. She completed her PhD research in fertility economics, with a focus on applied econometrics and policy evaluation. More recently, Suzanne has taken up a position as a lecture at Griffith University, where she provides fresh insights to both teaching and research. Her more recent research has concentrated on self-employment, work-family conflict and education.
