The Women in Economics Network (WEN) is proudly part of the worldwide movement to achieve gender equality that we celebrate on International Women’s Day.
Created in 2017, WEN seeks to address the persistent under-representation of women in the economics profession in Australia.
The UN Women Australia’s theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is MARCH FORWARD - a time for us to celebrate what we have achieved, and to continue to MARCH FORWARD.
At the WEN Queensland Strategy session earlier this year, we identified that we could do more to MARCH FORWARD with our objective to “encourage young women to study economics”.
To help us achieve this, we are absolutely delighted to have Ms Jacqui Walters, Chair, UNIQ You, as our special International Women’s Day guest speaker.
UNIQ You is a not for profit that inspires high school girls to consider careers in male dominated industries by connecting them with women working in those industries. Jacqui will share lessons from UNIQ You about encouraging girls and women to study in underrepresented areas.
Jacqui has also agreed to share insights from her own career as a highly respected trail blazer in industries underrepresented by women, including more than 20 years as a strategy and growth advisor across diverse sectors including aviation, rail, infrastructure, building and construction, and energy.
Jacqui Walters In addition to chairing the UNIQ You Board, Jacqui is a non-executive director on the boards of Transurban Queensland, the Port of Brisbane, and Slater and Gordon Lawyers. She was previously the inaugural Chair of the CleanCo Queensland Board and was a non-executive director for SecondBite, Pathways to Resilience, Development Victoria, and Building Queensland. She is the National Rail Manufacturing Advocate and Chair of the Rail Industry Innovation Council. In both these roles she advises the Australian Government on the delivery of the National Rail Manufacturing Plan |
