Future ready? Australia and international trade in the post-pandemic global economy
Event Type: ESA Event
Date: Friday May 6, 2022, 12:00 pm
Australia’s trade flows have experienced a high degree of volatility during the global pandemic, due to non-pharmaceutical interventions, supply chain issues and the recent war in Ukraine. As our economy continues to recover, new and emerging trade opportunities are likely to be a key driver of improvements in productivity and living standards. At the same time, these initiatives could face a number of headwinds, as the pace of economic integration has slowed. The multilateral rules-based order has come under pressure and there is a lower appetite for reduced trade barriers among some partners, while others are actively retreating from openness. Navigating such challenges will require a sound evidence base and careful and thorough economic analysis.
