Position: Researcher, Economic Geography or Economic Modelling
Landcare Research is recruiting an experienced and motivated geographer or economist to conduct and lead research in natural resource economics and/or economic geography, focusing on multi-sector modelling and analysis. We are specifically seeking a researcher with strong technical and analytical skills in spatially explicit modelling, computable general equilibrium modelling, partial equilibrium modelling, and/or other computational approaches. The incumbent will also have strong programming skills in high-level language(s) used for mathematical/economic modelling (e.g., GAMS, MATLAB, Mathematica) and experience with programming languages typically used in scientific applications (e.g., Python, C++, Fortran). A Ph.D. in geography, economics, agricultural or natural resource economics, or other relevant discipline with 3+ years of post-Ph.D. experience is desirable, although exceptional candidates with Masters degrees and Ph.Ds. with less experience are encouraged to apply. The incumbent will join the Economics and Integrated Land Use Modelling group, part of Landcare Research’s Governance and Policy science team. This multidisciplinary team holds expertise in environmental economics, geography, spatial modeling, sustainable business, Maori research, collaborative governance, planning, and risk management.
