Denise Doiron

Denise Doiron is currently Professor of Economics at The University of New South Wales where she has worked since 2000. She received her PhD from the University of British Columbia and worked in Canada at The University of Western Ontario and The University of British Columbia before moving to Australia. She has also held appointments at The University of Sydney, The Australian National University, Boston University and The University of Washington.  She served as Head of School of UNSW’s School of Economics from 2013 to 2016.

Doiron is an empirical micro-economist. She has published work in top international journals in the areas of labour markets and industrial relations, inequality and social policy, program evaluation and, more recently, health economics. Doiron has been a co-editor of The Economic Record and a member of the External Reference Group for HILDA. She has consulted for several government departments in Australia and in Canada mostly on technical aspects of data collection and analysis. In 2011, she was the first economist to give the Fay Gale Lectures, a series of public lectures hosted by the Academy of Social Sciences of Australia.
